About me

Derick is an award winning illustrator and art director based in North Carolina with over 7 years of experience in creating joyfully engaging imagery for publishing and animation. As an Art Director with Magpie Literacy he managed a team of 90+ artists and directed the creative vision for 130+ illustrated educational texts in an effort to end illiteracy in grades K-2. 

 

His work can also be seen in the Emmy nominated special Sesame Street: The Power of We, and The Bright Family comic book series. His latest picture book A is for Alfie is the first in a bold new series of alphabet adventures based on the award-winning Pinna original podcast. 

 

Derick's work is deeply inspired by his upbringing in Hampton Roads Virginia. Where family and friends fueled a passion for storytelling that remains with him today. When he’s not writing, doodling, or stopping his pets from wrestling, he can be found hanging with his wife on the couch dissecting old sitcoms.
